What We’ve Done
This design is among the four (4) National Finalist in the 2014 MADE (Metrobank Art and Design Excellence) Competition – Architecture Category.
U.SI.S.A.rt implores social vigilance and aesthetic curiosity, compounding the Filipino word usisa and art. “Usisa,” which means to inquire, to examine and to scrutinize, best encapsulate the design philosophy of the museum with respect to the site and the locality. The design agenda focuses on creating alluring spaces that invokes one’s curiosity to investigate and explore the civic center to satisfy the yearning for beauty and experiential delight (Lico, G. A. 2014).

Experience the Big Apple in Met Live Mall
The second branch of Nathan’s Famous in Manila.. In order to replicate the New York feel, the international design for the original Nathan’s Famous was purposely embraced. Rigorous sourcing of materials had to be done that will match the international requirements of the brand. Now, you can experience the feel, look and taste of “the city that never sleeps” in the rising central business district in Quezon City.

Bigger, Brighter, Better
The university calls for a more fitting facility to greet its students and visitors. At a glance, this space feels like entering a lobby of a high-end hotel, until you see the school’s name proudly welcoming you to the right place. The area allocated for the reception hall was originally an abandoned portion of the 1950s building that has long been unutilized. From a dark obscure storeroom, the reception was designed to have a bright and modern institutional feel yet pleasant and intimate like a hotel. Along the main hallway, translucent roofing was used to allow daylight to come into this windowless area. Around 80% of the floor and wall tiles used for this project were stockpile of the client for an unrealized project. Other finishing materials and furniture used were scouted and acquired from Manila.

A Massive Structure made Lightweight
A high-end resort demands a 500-pax pavilion with toilet facilities. The tricky part for this project was to make a 20 x 45 meter open space without any column support in the middle. Because of this requirement, the perimeter columns had to be massive. Architectural detailing of roof, ceiling, walls, doors and openings made the skeletal foundation look slimmer that it actually is. Other accessory buildings for the resort were also designed, such as the gazebo, chapel and public toilets.

The vision for this project was to be a green building landmark demonstrating that residential buildings can be profitable and environmentally responsible in the Philippines. The project is a low rise (7-storey, 2- basement parking) multi unit luxury residential building (MURB) targeting LEED Platinum with the client themselves as the LEED consultant. More green spaces were introduced and tropical design features were maximized such as daylighting strategies, cross-ventilation and building orientation.
